SWAN President Isaiah Benjamin Arrives Asaba for 9th National Youth Games

Posted : 29 August 2025

The President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, arrived in Asaba, Delta State, on Thursday for the 9th edition of the National Youth Games, which is set to begin on Friday, August 29, 2025.

In a statement issued by SWAN Secretary-General, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, it was confirmed that members of the SWAN National Executive Committee (NEC), along with State Chapter Chairmen, Secretaries, and a large contingent of sports journalists from across the country, are already in Asaba to cover the Games. The competition, which runs from August 26 to September 6, 2025, is expected to attract widespread attention.

On arrival, President Benjamin toured athlete camps and competition venues, noting that preparations are steadily taking shape as state contingents settle in. He expressed optimism that this year’s edition would serve as a platform to discover young athletes who could go on to represent both their states and Nigeria on the global stage.

“First of all, I want to thank God for the safe trips granted to the various state contingents and officials from the National Sports Commission,” Benjamin said. “The competition, designed for U15 athletes, is an opportunity to discover future stars. The stage is set, and we expect nothing less than a great outing for all participants.”

He further urged his colleagues in sports journalism to remain professional and diligent in their reporting. “I appeal to every sports journalist covering the Games to verify their information and sources before publishing,” he added.

Benjamin also emphasized that accreditation for covering the event would be limited strictly to registered SWAN members.

Delta State, the defending champion and serial winner of the competition, will once again aim to dominate the tournament and retain its crown.
