Simone Inzaghi has dismissed the growing rumours about his potential departure from Inter Milan following the upcoming Champions League final, amid increasing speculation linking him to a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal. Reports of a possible two-year contract worth 50 million euros surfaced just as Inter prepared to face Paris Saint-Germain in their second European final in three years. Despite this, Inzaghi insisted it was premature and “mad” to discuss his future before the decisive match, emphasizing his happiness at Inter.
Inzaghi pointed out that such transfer rumours have been a recurring theme throughout his career, both during his time at Lazio and now at Inter. He stressed that any decisions would be made after the final, with the club’s best interests as the top priority. He expressed confidence that if the right conditions are met, he and the club would continue their journey together, underlining his commitment to Inter’s future beyond the current season.
The coach also acknowledged the pressure ahead of the final in Munich, admitting that it might affect his sleep as Inter faces the prospect of ending the season without any silverware. After a hard-fought Serie A campaign where they narrowly missed out on the title to Napoli, and elimination from the Italian Cup by city rivals AC Milan in the semifinals, the Champions League final remains Inter’s last chance to secure a major trophy this season.
Inzaghi expressed pride in leading his team to two Champions League finals in three years, something he never achieved as a player. He highlighted the significance of the occasion for any coach, describing the Champions League as a prestigious competition that not every manager gets the opportunity to contest. Regarding team fitness, he confirmed that Lautaro Martinez is expected to be available for the final, while Benjamin Pavard and Piotr Zielinski remain doubtful due to injuries.
