Inter Milan began their quest to reclaim the Serie A crown with a dominant 5-0 victory over Torino at San Siro, marking Cristian Chivu’s debut as head coach in style.
The scoring opened in the 18th minute when Alessandro Bastoni met a cross with a glancing header, setting the tone for what followed. Marcus Thuram bagged a brace, one in each half, while Lautaro Martínez capitalized on a defensive error to add the third. New signing Ange-Yoan Bonny rounded off the emphatic performance with his first goal for the club.
Inter, last season’s runners-up, looked revitalized after their bitter Champions League final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. Despite starting just one new player in Petar Sucic, the Nerazzurri showcased fresh energy and fluidity. Sucic provided the assist for Thuram’s opener, while Bastoni and Martínez punished Torino’s sloppy passing to ensure a comfortable night for the hosts.
The win, however, unfolded in an unusually subdued atmosphere. Inter’s "Curva Nord" ultras staged a protest outside the stadium, boycotting the match in response to bans placed on certain supporters following criminal investigations involving leading figures in the fan base. This left long stretches of silence inside San Siro, with Torino’s travelling support often more audible than the home crowd.
For Torino, the heavy defeat highlighted serious problems ahead, with Marco Baroni’s side expected to face a difficult fight against relegation.
