Inter Milan secured the Coppa Italia title on Wednesday with a commanding 2-0 victory over Lazio, completing a memorable domestic double after already winning their 21st Serie A crown earlier in the season.
The Rome final was decided in the first half, as an own goal from Adam Marušić and a close-range finish from Lautaro Martínez gave Inter full control of the match and sealed their 10th Coppa Italia triumph. The Nerazzurri comfortably managed the game thereafter to confirm another major trophy.
Inter coach Cristian Chivu praised his team’s achievements, stating that their success was well deserved after a strong season. He added that winning both league and cup titles is never guaranteed and expressed satisfaction with the squad’s consistency.
For Lazio, the defeat added to a difficult season marked by frustration and fan unrest, with sections of supporters previously boycotting home matches in protest at club ownership. Although fans turned out in numbers for the final in Rome, their frustration was evident as Inter extended their lead.
Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri admitted his side was second best, acknowledging the low morale within the squad while expressing disappointment for the supporters who attended the final. He conceded that Inter were simply superior on the night.
The match followed a similar pattern to Inter’s recent dominant performances, with Lazio struggling to create meaningful chances. The breakthrough came in the 14th minute when Marušić inadvertently turned the ball into his own net following pressure from a corner.
Inter doubled their advantage in the 35th minute after a defensive error allowed Martínez to finish clinically, taking his tally to 22 goals across all competitions this season despite injury interruptions.
The second half saw Inter comfortably control possession and tempo, with Lazio unable to mount a serious comeback. Inter came close to adding a third goal, but the result was already beyond doubt as they coasted to victory.
The win confirms Inter’s status as Italy’s dominant force this season, finishing with both major domestic trophies and reinforcing their superiority in Italian football.
