Inter Milan Advances to Champions League Semifinals

Posted : 17 April 2025

Inter Milan secured a 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich on Wednesday, progressing to the Champions League semifinals with a 4-3 aggregate win. Lautaro Martinez and Benjamin Pavard scored for the Italian side, while Harry Kane and Eric Dier found the net for Bayern.

Despite a late equalizer from Dier in the 75th minute, the result wasn’t enough for Bayern to keep their hopes of a seventh Champions League title alive. Inter will now face Barcelona in the semifinals, with the second leg set to take place at the San Siro.

The match took place in challenging weather conditions at the San Siro, where heavy rain and strong winds made it difficult for both teams to play at their best. Inter had the upper hand for most of the game but struggled to break through Bayern’s defense in the first half, which ended in a goalless draw.

The crowd, initially subdued due to protests over ticket prices, erupted in support as the second half unfolded, fueling Inter's momentum as they pressed forward.

Bayern had a solid start to the second half, with Kane equalizing on the night, bringing the tie level. However, Inter responded quickly, with Martinez's goal giving them the lead again.

Pavard's header three minutes later appeared to seal the tie for Inter, but Bayern wasn't finished yet. Dier’s header brought Bayern within one goal of extra time, but despite late pressure, Bayern couldn’t break through again.

Inter’s victory sets them up for a potential treble, as they are also leading Serie A and have advanced to the semifinals of the Italian Cup.

The team has shown resilience and capability, reminiscent of their 2010 treble-winning season under José Mourinho. Inter's win in the quarterfinals confirms that they are a strong contender for the Champions League final, as they aim to continue their impressive run in Europe’s premier club competition.
