Emmanuel Dennis will miss the opportunity to earn his eighth appearance for Brondby IF this evening. The Super Eagles forward was officially left out of the matchday squad for the Danish Superliga fixture against SonderjyskE. Brondby manager Steve Cooper confirmed the selection on Friday, noting that the Nigerian attacker is currently sidelined with an injury.
The club verified that Dennis is one of several key players currently unavailable for the home clash at Brondby Stadium. He joins teammates Frederik Alves, Rasmus Lauritsen, and Filip Bundgaard on the treatment table. This marks the second time in recent weeks that the 28-year-old has been omitted from the roster due to fitness concerns. He previously missed a trip to face Aarhus GF in March for similar reasons.
Since joining the 11-time Danish champions on a free transfer during the January window, Dennis has struggled to find his best form. He has featured in seven league matches so far but has yet to register a goal or an assist for the club. Out of eight possible Superliga games, he has started four times and accumulated 373 minutes of competitive action.
The former Watford and Club Brugge man arrived in Denmark looking to revitalize a career that has seen him play in several top European leagues. His journey has taken him through Ukraine, Belgium, Germany, and Turkey. However, his recent lack of goals and recurring injury issues have hampered his integration into Steve Cooper’s tactical setup.
This latest setback also complicates any potential return to the international stage with the Super Eagles. Dennis has not featured for the Nigerian national team since a substitute appearance against Portugal in late 2022. Brondby currently remains in the hunt for European spots, and the technical staff will hope for a quick recovery to bolster their attacking options for the final stretch of the season.
