2023/2024 NPFL Match Day 30: Inconsistent Sporting Lagos FC returns to Lagos for Southwest derby against Sunshine Stars

Football fans in Lagos are expected to be at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena this Tuesday, April 16th, 2024, to watch Sporting Lagos Football Club face Sunshine Stars FC.


The Matchday 30 fixture will see coach Paul Offor attempt to change his team's narrative of poor form against a Sunshine Stars team that has experienced mixed results this season, failing to secure an away win.


The last encounter between both teams took place on November 26th, 2023, with Sunshine Stars emerging victorious thanks to a goal from Moses Omodumueke in the 25th minute.


Sunshine Stars have not won in their last three matches, both at home and away, in the elite league. Their most recent victory in the NPFL was on March 13th, 2024, with a 1-0 win over Katsina United at the Ondo State Sports Complex.


In that span, Sunshine Stars FC scored a total of five goals and conceded four.


Sporting Lagos, experiencing a poor run of form, have only secured maximum points in one out of their last five matches. Their last victory was on March 17th, 2024, defeating Kwara United 2-0.


The last home match for the Lagos-based team ended in a 1-1 draw against Lobi Stars of Makurdi, while Sunshine Stars' last home match also ended in a 1-1 draw against Bayelsa United.


Sunshine Stars are currently in 13th position, while Sporting Lagos are in 15th place on the league table, with both teams having accumulated 35 points.


Neither team has won in their last three matches, and Sporting Lagos have not kept a clean sheet in their last three games.


Sunshine Stars FC have recorded two wins, two draws, and one loss in their last five matches, while Sporting Lagos FC have managed one win, one draw, and three losses in the same period.
