Heartland Queens have received a major morale boost ahead of the 2026 President Federation Cup final, with Imo State Commissioner for Sports, Honourable Obinna Onyeocha, assuring the team of the state's unwavering support in their quest for a historic triumph.
The commissioner gave the assurance while hosting the players, coaches, and club officials at a reception to celebrate their impressive 2-1 semi-final victory over Robo Queens of Lagos, a result that secured the Owerri-based side a place in the final.
Describing the achievement as a landmark moment, Onyeocha noted that Heartland Queens are the first women's club from Nigeria's South-East geopolitical zone to qualify for the final of a major national competition.
He called on football enthusiasts, Imo State indigenes, and the entire South-East to turn out in large numbers at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, on July 11 to cheer the team against Nasarawa Queens of Lafia.
The Heartland Queens delegation, led by Technical Adviser Obi Ogbala alongside members of the club's management, expressed confidence that the team is well-prepared to bring the coveted trophy back to Imo State.
Onyeocha pledged to provide every necessary support to ensure Heartland Queens make history by winning the state's first-ever Federation Cup title, adding that the team's success reflects the steady growth of women's football in Imo State.
"I congratulate Heartland Queens for this remarkable achievement. This is a proud moment for Imo State and the entire South-East," Onyeocha said.
"The team has created history by reaching the Federation Cup final. I call on all Imolites to give the team full support as they represent our state in Asaba.
"This achievement will inspire more young girls to embrace football and believe in their dreams."
Heartland Queens will now look to crown their remarkable cup run with victory in the final as they seek to deliver a historic first President Federation Cup title for Imo State.
