Ilenikhena Tops Super Eagles Weekend Ratings as Onuachu Ranks Second

George Ilenikhena produced the best performance by a Nigerian player over the first weekend of September, according to Soccernet's latest Super Eagles ratings. The young forward scored twice for Al-Ittihad in their 2-1 Saudi Pro League victory over Al-Nassr.

Ilenikhena scored in the fourth minute before adding his second in the 22nd minute. His brace helped Al-Ittihad defeat a side featuring Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, Kingsley Coman and Joao Felix. He was later named Player of the Match.

The 20-year-old received a rating of 9.2/10. His two goals from four attempts gave him a clear edge over the other Nigerian players who impressed across Europe, Turkey, England and South Africa.

Paul Onuachu ranked second after producing a superb display for Trabzonspor. The striker scored twice inside the opening 22 minutes as Trabzonspor defeated Genclerbirligi 5-0 at Papara Park.

Onuachu opened the scoring in the fifth minute with a header before completing his brace in the 22nd minute. The performance ended a difficult scoring spell and provided a timely confidence boost for the Nigerian striker.

However, Onuachu's afternoon ended early after he suffered an injury and was replaced in the 43rd minute. Trabzonspor later provided a positive update, with interim coach Huseyin Cimsir indicating that the problem was not considered serious.

Tolu Arokodare claimed third place with a rating of 7.7/10. The Ajax striker scored against PSV Eindhoven to continue his impressive start in the Netherlands, although Ajax eventually lost 3-1.

Victor Osimhen finished fourth with a rating of 7.5/10. The Galatasaray striker scored a spectacular goal against Istanbul Basaksehir before being forced off after 33 minutes with a groin problem. Galatasaray later confirmed that Osimhen had suffered a moderate-to-advanced strain with bleeding in the right groin area, ruling him out of Nigeria's September AFCON qualifiers.

Samuel Chukwueze was fifth after making an immediate impact from the bench for AC Milan against Juventus. Chibuike Nwaiwu, Semi Ajayi, Alex Iwobi, Stanley Nwabali and Calvin Bassey completed the top 10.

Iwobi marked his 100th Premier League appearance for Fulham, while Ajayi helped Hull City secure a clean sheet against Aston Villa. Nwabali also kept a clean sheet in Chippa United's goalless draw with Milford FC.

The ratings underline Nigeria's attacking depth ahead of the September international window. However, injuries to Osimhen and Onuachu have created fresh concerns over the Super Eagles' options in attack. Nigeria will face Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau in their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches later this month.
