Ilaji FC Thrash Oyomesi FC 4-0 in Dominant Oyo Derby Victory

Ilaji FC continued their impressive resurgence in the 2026 Nationwide League One (NLO) campaign with a commanding 4-0 victory over Oyomesi FC in their Week 5 encounter at the Durbar Stadium in Oyo on Sunday.

The Ibadan-based side produced a clinical and disciplined display to silence the home supporters, who had hoped Oyomesi FC would capitalize on home advantage.

Fresh from their emphatic 3-0 win over Ibadan United, the Gladiators carried the same intensity and confidence into the derby, dominating large periods of the contest from start to finish.

Although both teams began brightly with an aggressive approach, Ilaji FC gradually took control of the game and eventually broke the deadlock through Isiak Malik. The forward reacted quickest after a defensive mix-up between two Oyomesi defenders from a set-piece situation presented him with a simple scoring opportunity.

Ilaji FC continued to apply pressure and soon doubled their lead through Bancy Abraham after Muhammad Tobi’s powerful free kick struck the woodwork. Abraham was perfectly positioned to convert the rebound and extend the visitors’ advantage.

Muhammad Tobi later got on the scoresheet himself with a superb direct free kick to cap a dominant first-half performance and hand Ilaji FC a comfortable 3-0 lead at halftime.

The visitors remained composed and threatening after the restart, refusing to slow down despite their commanding lead. Their persistence paid off late in the game when Bolarinwa Rokeeb added the fourth goal to complete an emphatic victory.

Ilaji FC’s overall performance reflected the progress previously highlighted by head coach Sesan Ogundele. The team displayed improved coordination, composure, attacking quality, and defensive discipline throughout the encounter.

The win moves Ilaji FC up to eight points from five matches, with the Gladiators now recording two wins, two draws, and one defeat so far this season.

Attention now turns to their upcoming fixture against Ogbomoso United as Ilaji FC aim to maintain their momentum and strengthen their push for the top spot on the table.
