Ikorodu City FC achieved a historic milestone by climbing to the top of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table for the first time in the club’s history, following a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Plateau United at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan.
The Match Day 13 clash saw the relentless Oga Boys continue their impressive form, securing their sixth consecutive win. Under the guidance of coach Bright Ozadegbe, Ikorodu City have now suffered just one defeat in 13 matches this season.
Heading into the fixture in third place, Ikorodu City capitalized on slip-ups by Nasarawa United and Abia Warriors, both of whom failed to win. Their victory over Plateau United made them the only team among the top three to claim maximum points, propelling them to the league summit.
After a goalless first half, Ikorodu City seized control immediately after the restart. Joseph Arumala opened the scoring just two minutes into the second half, before Alade Balogun doubled the advantage in the 53rd minute. Plateau United’s Wisdom Ndon later halved the deficit, but the visitors could not find an equalizer as Ikorodu City held firm.
With the win, the Oga Boys now sit atop the NPFL table with 24 points from 13 games, recording six wins, six draws, and one defeat—edging Nasarawa United on goal difference to claim first place.
