Ikorodu City Misfire Again as Katsina United Hold Firm in Onikan Stalemate

Posted : 17 December 2025

Ikorodu City FC endured another frustrating afternoon in the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League season after being held to a scoreless draw by Katsina United on Match Day 17. The encounter at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, extended the hosts’ goal drought to two consecutive matches.

The Oga Boys also failed to find the net in their previous outing, a Match Day 16 fixture away to Wikki Tourists in Bauchi, raising concerns about their cutting edge in attack. Despite controlling possession and enjoying home support in Lagos, Ikorodu City were unable to break down a well-organised Katsina United defence.

The match was fiercely contested but frequently interrupted, especially in the second half, as Katsina United employed game-management tactics that slowed the tempo. Several stoppages followed claims of injuries by the visitors, much to the displeasure of the home fans.

As the physicality increased, the referee was forced into repeated interventions, with five Katsina United players shown yellow cards. Nonetheless, the Changi Boys remained compact and disciplined, successfully absorbing pressure to secure a valuable point on the road.

Speaking after the game, Katsina United technical adviser Azeez Mohammed commended his players for executing their instructions and avoiding defeat in Lagos. He noted that lessons had been learned from last season and emphasized the team’s determination to approach every match with maximum focus.

The result leaves Ikorodu City searching for solutions in front of goal, while Katsina United can draw encouragement from a hard-earned away draw as the NPFL campaign continues.
