Ikorodu City Fight Back from Two Goals Down to Draw 2-2 with Shooting Stars

Posted : 26 October 2026

Ikorodu City fought back from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw against Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) in the South West Derby on Sunday. The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 10 encounter took place at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.

Shooting Stars made a strong start and took control of the contest with two goals in the opening 36 minutes. Taofeek Otaniyi opened the scoring in the third minute after capitalising on a failed clearance inside the penalty area.

The Oluyole Warriors doubled their advantage in the 36th minute through Desmond Ojietefian, who scored with a close-range header. The visitors appeared well positioned to claim their first away victory of the season after establishing a two-goal cushion.

However, Ikorodu City responded before the interval. Donald Obiajulu finished a swift counterattack down the right flank with a low shot into the bottom corner, reducing the deficit and giving the hosts renewed hope.

The Oga Boys continued to push for an equaliser after the break. Their persistence paid off in the 83rd minute when Obiajulu scored his second goal of the afternoon to complete the comeback and secure a point for Ikorodu City.

The result preserved Ikorodu City's unbeaten home record after five matches. The derby also attracted a sizeable crowd at the 10,000-capacity Mobolaji Johnson Arena, with supporters witnessing an entertaining four-goal contest.

For Shooting Stars, the draw extended their wait for an away win after a difficult run on the road. The Ibadan-based side had entered the match hoping to build on their previous victory over Ranchers Bees and improve their position in the standings.

Both teams remain in the bottom half of the NPFL table after 10 matches. Ikorodu City sit 11th with 13 points, while Shooting Stars have 12 points.

Elsewhere, Rivers United lost their first away match of the season, falling to Bendel Insurance. Freeman Wuchirwe and Jonathan Mairiga scored to hand the Benin City club victory and deny Rivers United an opportunity to strengthen their position at the top.

Rivers United remain on 17 points after 10 matches. However, Enugu Rangers are level on points and have two outstanding fixtures, leaving the top of the table open to change.

Enyimba's difficult away form continued with a defeat against Nasarawa United in Lafia. The nine-time Nigerian champions remained in the relegation zone after another disappointing result.

Inter Lagos also suffered another setback, losing to Kun Khalifat FC. The defeat marked their seventh loss of the season and extended their difficult run under interim manager Olusanjo Olutayo.

Niger Tornadoes recorded the only away victory of the matchday, defeating Abia Warriors. Warri Wolves and Kano Pillars played out a draw, while Barau FC and Kwara United shared the points after a 1-1 result.
