Ikorodu City FC have secured their place in the semi-finals of the 2025 1XBet Cup after a hard-fought 4-1 penalty shootout win over Nath Boys at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.
Assistant Coach of Ikorodu City Academy, Franklin Akinbule, dedicated the victory to his head coach, Oluwasanmi Doherty, and praised his players for their resilience and determination throughout the encounter. The intense clash ended 1-1 in regulation time before Ikorodu City triumphed in the shootout.
“It was a tough match because our opponents gave us a real fight, but I’m proud of my boys for staying composed and following instructions. This victory is well-deserved,” Akinbule said.
He credited tactical changes in the second half for their comeback, which produced the equaliser that kept the team alive. “Our equaliser came at the right time, and my boys responded perfectly. I dedicate this win to our chairman and management for their constant support,” he added.
Nath Boys took the lead through Remi Akintola early in the second half before Ikorodu City equalised via Afeez Adeshina to force penalties.
