Ikorodu City FC, FC Robo Queens emerge champions of 2026 Lagos FA Cup

Posted : 04 May 2026

It was a day of celebration and dominance in Lagos football as Ikorodu City FC and FC Robo Queens emerged winners of the male and female categories of the 2026 Lagos Federation Cup at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan.

Ikorodu City FC secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Nationwide League One (NLO) side, G-12 FC, to claim their third Lagos FA Cup title.

In a keenly contested encounter played before a vibrant crowd, the decisive moment came in the 76th minute when captain Tosin Oyedokun unleashed a long-range strike that beat the G-12 FC goalkeeper.

G-12 FC coach, Olusanjo Olutayo, expressed disappointment after the narrow loss but shifted focus to upcoming challenges.

“I am incredibly disappointed with the outcome of the match because I thought we could have won, but that is gone; the focus is on the National Federation Cup coming up on Wednesday.

“We fought and pushed hard. We also gave our absolute best. We obviously were placed against a side of class and quality, so it was a difficult challenge.

“Ikorodu City is among the top four in the league; they came fighting and pushing hard and, of course, it was a big challenge for us today.

“We've had a lot of games recently. So, of course, some fatigue is setting in. Maybe we could have played a bit more in terms of holding possession and keeping possession in key areas,” he said.

Ikorodu City FC coach, Bright Ozebagbe, praised his players for their determination and consistency.

“Winning today means a lot, and the players deserved the credit because we have to keep representing the brand. We are Ikorodu City.

“We're one of the best teams in Lagos and we are doing that again in the league, so we have to keep representing Lagos.

“Every game comes with its own challenges. We just have to find ways to always try to execute and perform our ultimate.

“Our expectations now are to do better than we did in last year's National Federation Cup; every year we go, we're always surpassing the previous year,” he said.

Chairman of the Lagos State Football Association (LSFA), Gafar Liameed, noted that the competition continues to grow in quality.

“This is an interesting final, but we cannot really grade ourselves and say this is the best. But we strive to be perfectionists.

“We will try our best to keep going and hopefully, very soon, we will stage the best FA Cup, not only in Nigeria, but in West Africa.

“G-12 FC playing against Ikorodu City FC are both good sides and they will represent Lagos in the National Federation Cup; a team playing in the NLO in the final is a definition of grassroots, consistent development,” he said.

Liameed also praised G-12 FC’s impressive run to the final.

“G-12 FC, a Nationwide League One (NLO) side playing Ikorodu City FC in the final, had a road that was not smooth.

“G-12 FC defeated all the giants en route to the final; big teams such as Inter Lagos, Sporting Lagos, and all the academies that came their way were victims before they reached the final.

“I was rooting for G-12 FC actually, although both of them are my teams, but I always like to root for the underdogs having gone all the way to the final.

“G-12 FC were patient, very articulate, and they played the final with everything, but they could not keep it all until Ikorodu City FC struck and eventually won,” he said.

The victory further underlines Ikorodu City’s rapid rise since their formation in 2022, having now won the title three times, including back-to-back triumphs in 2023 and 2024, and reaching at least the semi-finals in all their appearances.

In the women’s final, FC Robo Queens once again demonstrated their superiority, thrashing debutants Ghetto Tigers Ladies 4-0 to clinch a record-extending 14th Lagos FA Cup title.

The match was effectively decided in the first half, with all four goals scored in a commanding display at the same venue.

Ghetto Tigers Ladies coach, Azeez Mustapha, acknowledged the gap in experience between both sides.

“I had expected a 4-0 result; to me, seeing the performance of the girls in the second half, they tried their best to ensure that they did not add any more goals.

“From what everyone must have seen here, we presented a very young side.

“FC Robo Queens, on the other side, have more experienced players that have played abroad and came back for the competition. They have players from the U-17 and U-20 camps that came back for the final, too.

“FC Robo Queens showed a lot of respect by bringing back all those players to come and play this final; they didn't leave anything to chance,” he said.

He added that the occasion was a steep learning curve for his team.

“I told the girls, though probably some of them did not listen to me, that we were going to play a full-strength team in FC Robo Queens. Probably they felt players that went away would not come back.

“For FC Robo Queens, this is their 15th time in the final while we are playing our first FA Cup final, so there is a huge difference in the number of finals played.

“So it means that if we are coming back next year, we are going to come back with much stronger energy. We are relatively a young team with an average age of 15 years playing in the NWFL championship,” he said.

FC Robo Queens coach, Ndubisi Esther, said attention had already shifted to the national stage.

“Congratulations to us winning this FA Cup; it is a well-deserved win and we hope to get better during the National FA Cup.

“We don't want to promise what we cannot fulfill, so when we get to the bridge of the national competition, we'll cross it, but I'm not assuring the whole country, or all Nigerians, that we are going to win the trophy,” she said.

The victory earned FC Robo Queens a cash prize of N1.5 million alongside the trophy, further cementing their dominance in Lagos women’s football.

The finals drew notable dignitaries including Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Director, Austin Eguavoen, LSFA Chairman, Hajji Gafar Liameed, and representatives of the Lagos White Cap Chiefs.

With both Ikorodu City FC, G-12 FC, FC Robo Queens, and Ghetto Tigers Ladies set to represent Lagos at the National Federation Cup, the 2026 Lagos FA Cup once again highlighted the depth of talent and competitive spirit within the state’s football ecosystem.

The successful conclusion of the tournament underscores the commitment of the Lagos State Football Association to developing grassroots talent and providing a platform for elite performance. As the qualified teams transition to the national stage, they carry the hopes of the state for further silverware. The 2026 edition will be remembered for the record-extending dominance of FC Robo Queens and the continued rise of Ikorodu City FC as a powerhouse in Nigerian football.
