2025/2026 NPFL Matchday 9 Review: Ikorodu City FC Ends Nasarawa United’s Unbeaten Run

Posted : 20 October 2025

Ikorodu City FC continued their giant-killing reputation by ending Nasarawa United FC’s unbeaten run with a 2-0 victory.

High-flying Ikorodu City FC have once again halted an unbeaten run in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL)—this time, it was the league leaders, Nasarawa United FC.

The Oga Boys, known for upsetting top teams, had last season ended Rivers United’s unbeaten run, and this time, the Solid Miners from Lafia suffered the same fate.

At the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Ikorodu City FC defeated the 2025/2026 NPFL table-toppers 2-0 in a dominant Matchday 9 encounter.

The Bright Ozadegbe-tutored side started strongly, showing intent to score early—a plan that paid off in the 14th minute when Chidera Oparaocha, making his first start of the season, converted a fine cross from captain Waliu Ojetoye to give the hosts the lead.

Despite their attacking dominance, the Oga Boys couldn’t add to their tally before halftime, as injuries forced two early substitutions.
Midfielder Kelechi Onwe was replaced by Dagogo Ibifubara in the 18th minute after sustaining an injury, while Musa Malik—who suffered a facial cut—was replaced by Dada Oladimeji in the 42nd minute.

Coach Ozadegbe made another double substitution in the 60th minute, introducing Goodluck Anuba and Tomisin Adebayo for Chidera Oparaocha and Folarin Temitope.

The changes proved effective as Joseph Arumala headed in a cross from substitute Dada Oladimeji to make it 2-0 in the 68th minute, sealing a famous win for the Lagos-based side.

Reacting to the defeat, Nasarawa United head coach Mbwas Mangut admitted his team started poorly and paid the price for their slow first half.

“We started poorly but grew into the game in the second half after making some changes. Unfortunately, we couldn’t convert our chances. Like I always say, the league is a marathon, and we’ll definitely bounce back,” said Mangut.
