Ikorodu City FC edged Bendel Insurance 1–0 in an NPFL Matchday 8 clash, with debutant Folarin Temitope’s early strike sealing victory.
Ikorodu City FC secured a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Bendel Insurance in a tightly contested 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 8 clash on Sunday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan.
The Oga Boys struck early through Folarin Temitope, whose 10th-minute goal proved decisive. The newcomer calmly slotted home from a well-worked corner routine to hand his side an early advantage.
Folarin, who joined the team during the pre-season transfer window, made an instant impact on his debut as home fans erupted in celebration after the final whistle confirmed all three points for Ikorodu City FC.
Both sides created chances in the first half, but poor finishing and resilient defending kept the scoreline unchanged after the opening goal.
Insurance’s goalkeeper produced a stunning save in the 83rd minute to deny Ikorodu City’s Alfred Odinaka from doubling the lead with a brilliant volley.
After the match, Bendel Insurance’s acting Head Coach, Baldwin Bazuaye, expressed disappointment over the result.
“It’s not necessary for the home team to always win. Matches should be fair so we can get the best players to represent us in the national team. My team was not well organized in the first half, so I had to make adjustments,” he said.
The match-winner, Folarin Temitope, expressed joy over his performance and patience in waiting for his opportunity.
“I’ve been training and keeping myself fit, waiting for my chance. I thank God I was ready when it came. I’m just happy to help my team — it was a total team effort,” he said.
Ikorodu City coach, Bright Ozadegbe, praised his players’ effort, emphasizing that the team is still in transition.
“We keep working and taking one match at a time. This is a good feeling for the team. Many players left after last season, so we’re trying to build a new system. The new players need time to understand and perform effectively, but we’ll keep improving,” he said.
With the victory, Ikorodu City FC remain ninth on the NPFL table with two wins, five draws, and one loss. The Oga Boys will next host league leaders Nasarawa United FC in another crucial home fixture.
