Ikorodu City FC reinforced their title credentials on Sunday with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over fellow top-four side Abia Warriors in Match Day 15 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.
Despite off-field distractions earlier in the day following the announcement of winger Shola Adelani’s transfer to Bulgarian club Botev Plovdiv, the Oga Boys displayed depth and resilience to maintain their momentum in the title race.
The hosts came close to breaking the deadlock in the 13th minute when Temitope Folarin’s direct free-kick skimmed just over the crossbar.
Ikorodu City were dealt a setback in the 34th minute when Taiwo Alao picked up an injury and was replaced by Alade Balogun, but the first half ended goalless.
The breakthrough arrived in the 69th minute. Returning from injury and making his first start, Chidera Oparaocha capitalized on a defensive lapse to score the decisive goal, sending the home crowd into celebration.
Coach Bright Ozadegbe immediately refreshed his attack with the introduction of Tomisin Adebayo and Goodluck Anuba, while Oparaocha and Folarin made way.
Abia Warriors pushed for an equalizer, but Ikorodu City held firm to protect their lead until the final whistle.
The victory restores Ikorodu City FC to the summit of the NPFL standings. They now sit on 27 points from 15 matches, with seven wins, six draws, and just two defeats, once again proving their ability to rise to the occasion against top opposition.
