2025/2026 NPFL Match Day 4: Ikorodu City Breaks Barau FC’s Resilience with 2-0 Victory

Posted : 14 September 2025

Ikorodu City FC on Sunday broke through Barau FC’s resilient defense in the second half to claim a 2-0 victory in the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 4 fixture.

The tense encounter at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, saw the visitors put up a strong defensive wall to contain Ikorodu City’s relentless attack. The Maliya Boys managed to keep a clean sheet in the first half, while the home side was forced into an early substitution after Taiwo Alao picked up an injury in the 26th minute, with Waliu Ojetoye coming on.

At halftime, Ikorodu City coach Bright Ozadegbe made a triple substitution, introducing Ayomide Cole, Tosin Oyedokun, and Joseph Arumala in place of Ibufara Dagogo, Gift Udoh, and Moses Shodeinde.

The breakthrough came in the 59th minute when Joseph Arumala headed in Alfred Odinaka’s delightful cross. Ikorodu City doubled their lead in the 84th minute as Ayomide Cole calmly finished from Uche Onyemaechi’s precise pass, leaving Barau FC’s goalkeeper flat-footed.

Barau FC coach, Ladan Bosso, expressed disappointment with the result, noting that his team would work on correcting their mistakes.

“We tried our best, but the result did not go our way. I have noticed some flaws in the team which shall be corrected, but we can’t make that public,” Bosso said.

On the other hand, Oga Boys coach Bright Ozadegbe praised his players and said the team would build on the momentum to secure more wins.
