Ikenne to Host Super Falcons’ Olympic Qualifiers Against Comoros

The Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo has been confirmed as the venue for both legs of Nigeria’s second-round qualifying tie against Comoros for the 2028 Olympic Games. The Super Falcons will face Comoros on October 9 before playing the return leg at the same venue on October 13.

The Nigeria Football Federation confirmed the arrangement as the 10-time African champions begin their bid for a second consecutive Olympic appearance. Nigeria returned to the Olympic stage at the Paris 2024 Games after missing the previous three editions.

Nigeria received a bye into the second round after being ranked among the three highest-ranked teams in the African qualifying series. The Falcons therefore avoided the opening round and will enter the competition against a Comoros side that advanced in impressive fashion.

Comoros secured their place after destroying Sudan 30-0 on aggregate in the opening round. They won the first leg 17-0 before completing the rout with a 13-0 victory in the return fixture.

The two-legged tie will give Nigeria home advantage in both matches. The Super Falcons have already enjoyed success at the Remo Stars Stadium this year, beating Senegal 3-0 at the venue in an international friendly after winning the first meeting 2-1.

Nigeria must progress through four rounds of two-legged knockout ties to secure one of Africa’s two available places at the Los Angeles Olympics. The NFF has expressed confidence that the Falcons can navigate the qualifying campaign and return to the Olympic tournament for a second straight edition.

If Nigeria eliminate Comoros, they will advance to the third round scheduled for February 23 to March 6, 2027. The Falcons would face either the Democratic Republic of Congo or Morocco at that stage.

The fourth round is scheduled for October 4 to 12, 2027, while the final qualifying round will take place from November 23 to December 4. Only two African teams will eventually qualify for the women’s football tournament at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

For the Super Falcons, the October double-header provides an early opportunity to begin rebuilding after a disappointing 2026 campaign. The team will now look to make full use of home advantage in Ikenne and take another step towards Olympic qualification.
