2025/2026 NWFL Matchday 7: Ibom Angels Edge Ekiti Queens 2–1 in Uyo

Posted : 23 January 2026

Ibom Angels FC continued their steady rise in the 2025/2026 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership with a gritty 2–1 victory over Ekiti Queens in their Matchday 7 encounter at the Uyo Township Stadium.

Although the fixture was played behind closed doors, the home side drew motivation from the presence of Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, whose support provided encouragement for the Angels.

Fast Start, Strong Response

Ibom Angels began the contest with intent and were rewarded early. Their positive approach paid off in the 10th minute when Happiness Agboye broke the deadlock, giving the hosts a deserved lead after sustained early pressure.

Ekiti Queens, however, showed resilience and gradually worked their way back into the game. Their response came in the 30th minute as Seun Fakunle found the equaliser, restoring parity and setting the stage for a tightly contested battle.

Tactical Battle and Late Drama

The remainder of the match was evenly balanced, with both sides enjoying spells of dominance and creating scoring opportunities. Defensively, both teams held firm for long periods, turning the encounter into a tense tactical duel.

The decisive moment arrived in the 80th minute when Wami Georgeline struck the winning goal for Ibom Angels, sparking celebrations on the bench and securing a crucial home victory.

A Win That Builds Belief

Despite the absence of fans, Ibom Angels displayed composure, determination, and belief to see out the match and claim all three points. The victory not only boosts their confidence but also reinforces their ambition to climb the NWFL Premiership standings as the season unfolds.

Winning under the watchful eye of Commissioner Elder Paul Bassey further underlined the team’s growing confidence and the positive momentum surrounding the Uyo-based side.
