Hyperbuzz FC Clinches 2025 MTN NLO Cup in Thrilling Penalty Shootout

Hyperbuzz FC of Abuja has been crowned champions of the 2025 MTN NLO Cup, edging out JNR Danburan FC of Katsina in a dramatic penalty shootout. The contest ended 6-5 on penalties following a 2-2 stalemate in regulation time, providing fans with a thrilling finale at Bwari Stadium.

Both teams were awarded for their outstanding performances, with Hyperbuzz FC taking home ₦2.5 million and JNR Danburan receiving ₦1.5 million. Throughout the tournament, both sides remained unbeaten in the group stage and collectively scored 18 goals, highlighting their attacking prowess and consistency.

The match itself was a display of resilience and skill. Mubarak Rabe broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute, scoring his 11th goal in four matches to give JNR Danburan a 1-0 lead. Hyperbuzz FC responded quickly, with Sunday Elijah heading in an equalizer in the 51st minute. Just past the hour mark, Ridwan Yusuf’s long-range strike put Hyperbuzz FC ahead 2-1, only for JNR Danburan to level again in the 69th minute through Aminu Abduljalil.

With the match ending in a tie after regulation, the championship was decided in a penalty shootout. Despite missing their opening attempt, Hyperbuzz FC converted all six of their penalties with precision, while JNR Danburan managed five successful kicks.

The victory not only highlights Hyperbuzz FC’s determination and skill but also underscores the competitive spirit of both finalists, making the 2025 MTN NLO Cup final a memorable showcase for grassroots football.
