Hurzeler Responds to Man Utd Job Links as Carrick Faces Pressure

Posted : 23 October 2026

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Fabian Hurzeler has dismissed speculation linking him with the Manchester United job, insisting that his priority is to continue building on his team’s impressive start to the Premier League season. The German coach also expressed his respect for Michael Carrick, who is facing increasing pressure following Manchester United’s disappointing run of results.

Carrick’s position has come under scrutiny after United extended their winless streak to seven matches across all competitions, culminating in a heavy 4-1 defeat against Como in the Champions League on Wednesday. The result has fuelled speculation that the club could consider another managerial change, with Hurzeler emerging as one of the names linked with the potential vacancy.

Brighton, meanwhile, have enjoyed a strong campaign and sit third in the Premier League table ahead of their trip to Liverpool on Sunday. Their impressive performances, including a 3-2 comeback victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford in the League Cup last month, have strengthened Hurzeler’s reputation as one of the league’s promising young managers.

Speaking ahead of the Liverpool fixture, the 33-year-old made it clear that he was not interested in being distracted by speculation about his future.

Hurzeler said his demanding schedule left little time to consider rumours, adding that he held Carrick in high regard because of his work at Manchester United. He described the United manager as a good person and a respected personality, noting that they had maintained a positive relationship whenever they met.

Brighton’s attacking performances have been a major feature of their campaign, although their scoring run came to an end in a goalless draw against Czech side Jablonec in the Europa League on Thursday. Despite that result, Hurzeler remains confident that his team can continue improving.

The Brighton manager believes there is still considerable potential within his squad and is determined to work with his players and coaching staff to raise their performance levels. He praised the group’s commitment and the strong relationships developed within the club over recent seasons.

Hurzeler also acknowledged that Brighton have experienced difficult periods as well as successful ones, stressing that building a competitive team requires patience, trust and strong connections between players and staff. He said those relationships were valuable and should never be taken for granted.

For now, Hurzeler remains focused on Brighton’s immediate challenges rather than the uncertainty surrounding Manchester United. With a difficult away match against Liverpool approaching, the German will be eager to see his side return to winning ways and maintain their position among the Premier League’s leading teams.
