How we plotted Bayelsa United FC's fall by Rivers Angels' Coach Ogbonda

Posted : 19 April 2024

Rivers Angels coach, Whyte Ogbonda, has revealed how his second-half substitutes gave his side the maximum points against Bayelsa Queens.

Patience Otobo scored her debut goal for Rivers Angels in the 89th minute to humble the team's stubborn rival Bayelsa Queens and seal a spot in the Super Six.

Ogbonda praised his players for putting up a good performance against their perennial rivals, Bayelsa Queens, on Wednesday.

He also admitted that it wasn't an easy match because the two sides are former champions, but he is happy that his team won the South-South derby.

"I would say that today's game was a match between two champions and a South-South Derby. The match between the two sides is never easy, but at the end of the day, we were able to secure the three points.

"The changes we made in the second half went a long way to help us get the 3 points at stake today.

"I told my team that the bench was going to win the match for us today. We needed to leave some good players on the bench and allow others to play when those on the pitch are tired. The players on the bench can then come and contribute."

An excited Otobo said after the match that she is thrilled to have scored her debut goal, which sealed her team's qualification for the Super Six.

"I feel so happy to have scored the goal that sealed our Super Six ticket. I waited for the attacker to cross the ball, and I was able to score."
