Heartland Queens delivered a resolute performance to claim a valuable point after holding Pacesetters Queens to a goalless draw on Matchday 5 of the Nigerian Women Football League (NWFL) at the iconic Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.
Both teams began the encounter on the front foot, producing an evenly balanced first half marked by end-to-end action. The hosts and visitors searched for openings, but well-organised defensive units on both sides ensured clear-cut chances were few and far between.
Pacesetters Queens, who entered the fixture without a point from their opening four matches, showed greater urgency and desire. They committed numbers forward and pressed aggressively in search of a breakthrough. However, Heartland Queens remained composed at the back, absorbing pressure and frustrating the home side with disciplined defending.
As the contest progressed, Heartland Queens grew in confidence and began to threaten on the counterattack, launching several dangerous moves that tested the resolve of the Pacesetters’ defence.
Despite increased intensity and attacking intent from both sides in the closing stages, neither team could find the decisive finish, and the match ended in a scoreless stalemate.
The result keeps Heartland Queens in fifth place on the league table with five points from four matches, while Pacesetters Queens remain at the bottom. However, the Ibadan-based side finally opened their account with their first point of the season.
Heartland Queens will now shift focus to a home fixture against Ibom Angels at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri, while Pacesetters Queens remain in Ibadan to face Ekiti Queens in their next NWFL outing.
