Heartland Queens will kick off their 2026 President Federation Cup journey with a Round of 32 clash against Dragon Fury Ladies on Monday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.
The Owerri-based side are aiming to make a stronger impact in this year’s competition after their campaign ended in the quarterfinals last season following a penalty shootout loss to Ibom Angels.
After once again asserting their dominance in the Imo State FA Cup, Heartland Queens now turn their attention to the national competition, hoping to secure silverware after narrowly missing out on a place in the NWFL Premiership Super Six playoffs.
Despite entering the fixture as favourites, the Imo club are expected to remain cautious against a determined Dragon Fury Ladies team eager to make history. The Ibadan side attracted attention after finishing as runners-up in the Oyo State FA Cup and will see the tie as an opportunity to pull off a major upset.
The encounter will be the first meeting between the two clubs, adding another layer of excitement to the contest.
Under the guidance of coach Obi Ogbala, Heartland Queens are expected to depend on their experience and top-flight quality to navigate past the non-league challengers. However, the unpredictable reputation of the Federation Cup means the favourites cannot afford to underestimate their opponents.
The winners of the tie will progress to the Round of 16, where a meeting with either Ahudiyannem Queens or Moje Queens awaits.
For Heartland Queens, the Federation Cup offers a valuable opportunity to finish the season on a high note, and a strong opening performance could strengthen belief in their hopes of lifting the trophy.
