2025/2026 NWFL Match Day 10: Heartland Queens Dare Ekiti Queens in Abeokuta

The superiority contest will come alive on Wednesday between the top-flight sides, Ekiti Queens and Heartland Queens, at the start of the second term of the ongoing league season.

The NWFL Premiership Matchday 10 clash comes up at the 10,000-seat MKO Abiola International Stadium in Kuto, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

It is the fourth encounter in all competitions between the two sides. The Owerri-based Heartland Queens, however, have maintained a marginal edge over their counterparts, the Omoluabi Queens, in the previous three top-flight meetings.

The midweek showdown provides both teams a rare opportunity to even the score or extend the gap and further assert a commanding position in the league.

Both sides fell to their respective Matchday 9 opponents. The home team went down by two unanswered goals to champions Bayelsa Queens in Yenagoa, while the visitors, Heartland Queens, lost 1-2 to Adamawa Queens in Numan.

In the past three meetings, the dugout men have remained the same. The hosts have Jacob Vandi in charge, while the visitors are led by the soft-spoken veteran, Obi Ogbala. According to bookmakers, the outcome could come down to the benches.

The visitors have struggled on the road in the nine-week-old premiership, having lost three times to former champions Edo Queens, Rivers Angels, and Adamawa Queens, while only managing draws against newcomers Pacesetters Queens and former rivals Naija Ratels.

Coach Ogbala will aim to end the poor away form in the land of the Omoluabis and will carefully select his roster and tweak previous tactics to improve his team’s road performance.

The Owerri side is fifth on the Group A log, just above the home team, Ekiti Queens, who are ninth in the nine-team table with 11 points, 10 behind leaders and champions, Bayelsa Queens.

After this duel, the Heartland Queens will return home to welcome former champions Edo Queens at their fortress, the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri, for the Matchday 11 game.
