Heartland Queens will push very hard to maintain their impressive 100 per cent home record this season against the champions, Bayelsa Queens, in the restart of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Match Day 8 on Wednesday, February 18 at the main bowl of the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri, Imo State.
The midweek season restart matchup combatants are familiar and have met almost countless times in competitive and non-competitive games.
The most recent was the inaugural Governor Douye Diri Women's Preseason Tournament in Yenagoa where the Owerri campaigners battled the title holders as Bayelsa Princesses.
However, fate, this time around during the draws for the 2025/2026 #NWFL Premiership season in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, directly pitched the rivals together in the nine-team Group A, and that explains the reason for the Match Day 8 showdown date.
The gaffers on both sides remain the same veterans, Obi Ogbala and Whyte Ogbonda for the Owerri and Yenagoa sides respectively.
Prior to the Game 8 showdown, the combatants experienced mixed fortunes in Game 7. While the homers were thoroughly humbled by neighbours, Rivers Angels, in Port Harcourt, the Prosperity Girls were awesome in a 4-1 win against Adamawa Queens at the Makwada Stadium in Numan to pave the way for the season's epic clash.
Aside from the humbling in Port Harcourt by Rivers Angels, the Owerri mainstreams have been imperious on the road and at home. The side has actually kept a perfect record on home soil, a record the homers will jealously guard and strive hard to keep against the invading visitors from Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Expectations are high that the Owerri side's dugout manager, Ogbala, will make huge changes from the lineup that collapsed against multiple champions, Rivers Angels, in Port Harcourt to bring in the doggedness, resoluteness, and resourcefulness needed to subdue the reigning champions, Bayelsa Queens.
The Owerri side are fourth on the nine-team Group A log with eight points, ten behind the group's leaders, champions and visitors, Bayelsa Queens.
Heartland Queens will next week, after the backyard game, wrap up the first-term season campaign with a long trip to the North East side, Adamawa Queens, at the turf of Makwada Stadium in Numan, a location 70 kilometres north of the Adamawa State capital, Yola.
