Harry Kane Set to Match England Appearance Record Against Czech Republic

Posted : 05 October 2026

Harry Kane is poised to equal England's men's appearance record when he lines up against the Czech Republic at Wembley on Tuesday. The Bayern Munich striker will earn his 125th cap, moving level with former goalkeeper Peter Shilton at the top of the country's all-time list.

Kane has been a central figure for England since making his debut against Lithuania in 2015. The captain marked that first appearance with a goal shortly after coming off the bench and has since established himself as the national team's record scorer, with 89 goals in 124 matches.

His latest milestone follows another outstanding performance against Croatia, when Kane scored twice in England's emphatic 7-0 Nations League victory. The result moved Thomas Tuchel's side onto six points from three matches, three behind group leaders Spain.

Kane's pursuit of England's first major men's trophy since 1966 remains one of the biggest unfinished chapters of his international career. The striker has experienced European Championship final defeats in 2021 and 2024, while England also suffered semi-final heartbreak at the 2026 World Cup.

One player expected to play a major role in England's future is Jude Bellingham. The Real Madrid midfielder has rebuilt his standing under Tuchel after previously being left out of the squad and has become an increasingly important creative force.

Bellingham was outstanding against Croatia, scoring once and supplying three assists as England produced their biggest win of the Tuchel era. His performance drew widespread praise, with teammates describing his ability and influence as exceptional.

Tuchel believes the relationship between Kane and Bellingham is developing rapidly. The England manager has adjusted Bellingham's positioning to give him greater freedom in advanced areas, where his attacking qualities can have the greatest impact.

"They get better and better. They love playing with each other," Tuchel said, highlighting the growing understanding between the two stars.

The partnership could prove crucial as England look toward Euro 2028. Kane provides the experience and goals, while Bellingham offers creativity, athleticism and an increasingly significant goal threat.

Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, who impressed on his first England start against Croatia, was particularly impressed by Bellingham's influence. Scott said playing alongside him had demonstrated just how high the standard is within Tuchel's team.

England head into Tuesday's Wembley encounter after beating Czechia 2-0 in Prague earlier in the Nations League campaign, with Kane scoring the second goal. The Three Lions will now look to strengthen their position in Group A3 while Kane aims to celebrate his record-equalling appearance with another landmark performance.
