Harry Kane Confident England Can End 60-Year World Cup Wait in 2026

Posted : 21 May 2026

Harry Kane has expressed strong belief that England are entering their most complete era, insisting the national team has the quality to end its long wait for a World Cup title. The England captain says the squad is determined to bring home the trophy for the first time since 1966.

Now 32, Kane will lead England into the 2026 World Cup in North America, aiming to follow in the footsteps of Bobby Moore and become the first England captain in six decades to lift the trophy. After reaching consecutive European Championship finals under former manager Gareth Southgate, England secured comfortable qualification under Thomas Tuchel.

Kane pointed to the depth and talent within the current squad, highlighting the influence of players such as Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice. He believes both the starting lineup and bench strength make England one of the leading contenders for the tournament.

The Bayern Munich striker also said he is performing at the highest level of his career. With 58 goals in 50 appearances this season, Kane believes his game has evolved significantly, adding deeper playmaking abilities to his traditional goal-scoring threat.

Reflecting on his development over the past decade, Kane described himself as a more complete forward, crediting his improved understanding of positioning, link-up play and tactical awareness. He said these improvements have elevated him beyond the player he was earlier in his career.

Despite personal ambitions, Kane stressed that team success remains the priority. He is closing in on England’s World Cup scoring record and acknowledged that individual milestones are meaningful, but only when they contribute to victories.

England head into the tournament with high expectations, and Kane says belief within the squad is stronger than ever. He insists the ultimate motivation is delivering success for the country and ending decades of disappointment on the world stage.
