Hafia FC secured their first victory of the 2026 West Africa Champions Cup after edging Stade Malien 4-3 in one of the most dramatic matches of the tournament so far. The encounter took place on Tuesday, August 18, at the Stade M’Ballou Mady Diakité in Kankan.
The first half offered plenty of physical competition, but neither side was able to find the breakthrough. Hafia and Stade Malien battled for control in midfield, creating opportunities without producing a goal, leaving the score 0-0 at halftime.
The second half was completely different. Hafia finally opened the scoring in the 54th minute when Alhssane Ndiaye found the net to put the Guinean side 1-0 ahead.
Stade Malien responded from the penalty spot eight minutes later. Ousmane Coulibaly converted in the 62nd minute to restore parity, but Hafia quickly regained the advantage when Soriba Camara scored in the 66th minute to make it 2-1.
The Malian side refused to go away. Another penalty arrived in the 80th minute, and Coulibaly stepped up again to score his second of the night and bring Stade Malien level at 2-2.
The contest then exploded during the 12 minutes of added time. Camara scored again to give Hafia a 3-2 lead, but Stade Malien immediately responded after the restart to level the match at 3-3.
With the game appearing destined for a draw, Hafia were awarded a decisive late penalty. Mohamed Bangoura kept his composure and converted to seal a remarkable 4-3 victory for the Guinean club.
The victory was particularly important for Hafia after a difficult start to the tournament. The three points moved the club to four points and into third place in the standings, according to the match report.
The result also highlighted the attacking quality and unpredictability of this year's WACC, which brings together leading clubs from across West Africa as they prepare for their respective continental campaigns.
