Erling Haaland has described Manchester City’s current campaign as both “horrific” and “boring,” despite the team reaching the FA Cup final and being close to securing Champions League qualification. The striker, who recently returned from an ankle injury, expressed his frustration with the season’s setbacks, including multiple defeats and a lack of silverware compared to their high standards.
City, currently fourth in the Premier League and 18 points adrift of champions Liverpool, have already been eliminated from the Carabao Cup and the Champions League, falling short of the dominance they had maintained in previous seasons.
Haaland admitted that Manchester City have not been stable or consistent enough, emphasizing the importance of performing well in crucial matches. While acknowledging the impact of injuries, he dismissed excuses, stating that both he and his teammates simply haven’t been good enough to meet the club’s usual expectations.
Despite his personal achievements — including back-to-back Premier League Golden Boots — Haaland noted the lack of cohesion and sustained winning runs, key elements that defined City’s recent years of success.
The Norwegian forward reflected on his own recent injury layoff, saying it was “horrible” to watch from the sidelines, but he is determined to contribute with renewed energy.
Looking ahead, Haaland is focused on finishing the season on a high, particularly in the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace, which could serve as a morale booster in an otherwise disappointing campaign. He also acknowledged the departure of Kevin De Bruyne, praising the midfielder’s immense contribution to the club and vowing to help him exit with one last trophy.
Having grown up admiring City from the stands, including a visit to Wembley as a fan in 2014, Haaland still finds playing there special and meaningful. He hopes to add another cup triumph to his collection, one that might bring a positive end to a campaign that has otherwise fallen short of expectations for a club of City’s stature. As they prepare for the final, Haaland is keen to help the team rebound and maintain their winning culture, even in the face of transitions and challenges.
