Rasmus Højlund honoured Cristiano Ronaldo with his trademark ‘Siuuu’ celebration after scoring for Denmark against Portugal.
Rasmus Højlund paid tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo by copying the Portuguese star’s famous ‘Siuuu’ celebration after scoring against Portugal in Thursday’s UEFA Nations League clash.
The Denmark striker levelled the match at 2-2 in the 53rd minute, lifting the ball over Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa before immediately performing Ronaldo’s signature celebration. The moment attracted attention because Ronaldo had left the Portugal camp earlier in the week and was absent from the match.
Højlund later explained that the gesture was intended as a tribute rather than a provocation. He said Ronaldo was his idol and that he wanted to honour the 41-year-old following his departure from the national team camp.
The celebration was not the first time Højlund has used Ronaldo’s trademark routine against Portugal. He also performed it when Denmark faced Portugal previously, with Ronaldo watching from the pitch on that occasion.
Portugal ultimately had the final say, recovering from Højlund’s equaliser to win 4-2 in Copenhagen. João Cancelo and Gonçalo Ramos had earlier put the visitors ahead, while Vitinha and João Félix added further goals to secure Portugal’s third consecutive Nations League victory.
There was also a tense moment involving Højlund and Portugal coach Jorge Jesus after the final whistle. Television footage appeared to show the Danish forward briefly making contact with the coach, although the reason for the exchange has not been confirmed.
