Gusau/Ahlan Pre-Season: Kwara United seal perfect Group B run with 5-0 rout

Kwara United FC underlined their readiness for the new season with a dominant 5-0 victory over Flamingo FC in their final Group B fixture of the ongoing Gusau/Ahlan Pre-Season Tournament at the Mohammed Dikko Stadium, Katsina.

The emphatic victory completed a perfect group-stage campaign for the Harmony Boys, who won all three of their matches without conceding a goal.

Kwara United took control from the opening whistle, with Qudus Opeyemi breaking the deadlock in the 25th minute.

Opeyemi turned provider four minutes later, setting up Jerry Alex to double the advantage and send the Harmony Boys into the break with a comfortable 2-0 lead.

The Ilorin-based side continued where they stopped after the interval and extended their advantage when Gideon Stephen converted a penalty after a Flamingo FC player handled the ball inside the box.

Solomon Shoola made it 4-0 in the 70th minute with an impressive individual effort before Abdul Muiz Ibrahim completed the rout nine minutes later.

The victory was also a reward for a collective effort, with Qudus Opeyemi, Gidado Toyeeb, Solomon Shoola, Bakare Aliu, Mighty Emmanuel, Obeid Ponkap, Suraj Ayeleso and Sherif Kolawole all playing key roles in the impressive display.

Mighty Emmanuel was subsequently named Man of the Match following his outstanding all-round performance.

Kwara United head coach, Ashifat Sulyman, expressed delight with the team's progress, saying the tournament was providing the squad with valuable opportunities to build understanding ahead of the new campaign.

"We will continue to work hard to ensure the team blends together and functions as a unit before the new season kicks off," he said.

The result saw Kwara United finish top of Group B with nine points from three matches, scoring eight goals and conceding none.

Their three consecutive clean sheets further highlighted the defensive solidity of the Harmony Boys, who now head into the next stage of the tournament with considerable confidence as preparations for the new season gather momentum.
