The Super Eagles of Nigeria will target a second consecutive victory in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers when they face Guinea-Bissau in Bissau on Tuesday, September 29. The Group L encounter will take place at the Estádio 24 de Setembro and kick off at 4:00 p.m. GMT, which is 5:00 p.m. Nigerian time.

The match is available to viewers across Sub-Saharan Africa through SuperSport following Canal+ securing the broadcast rights for the AFCON 2027 qualifiers. Nigerian viewers can check their DStv or GOtv listings for the relevant SuperSport channel carrying the game.

Nigeria began their qualifying campaign with a 2-1 comeback victory over Madagascar in Uyo. Guinea-Bissau also claimed three points in their opening match, defeating co-hosts Tanzania 2-0 away from home.

George Ilenikhena scored Nigeria’s equaliser against Madagascar before substitute Moses Usor completed the comeback in the second half. The result gave Eric Chelle’s team three points, while Guinea-Bissau moved to the top of the group on goal difference after their win in Tanzania.

The Group L qualification picture adds extra importance to the fixture. Tanzania are already guaranteed a place at the 2027 tournament as one of the co-hosts, meaning only the highest-ranked team among Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau and Madagascar will qualify from the group.

Nigeria will also have to deal with the continued absence of Victor Osimhen. The striker was ruled out of both opening qualifiers while recovering from a muscle injury, leaving Chelle to rely on other attacking options.

The Super Eagles have a positive overall head-to-head record against Guinea-Bissau. Nigeria have won three of their four previous meetings, while Guinea-Bissau have one victory and there has been no draw. Nigeria have also conceded only once across those four matches.

However, the only defeat came in Abuja during the 2023 AFCON qualifying campaign. Guinea-Bissau won 1-0 through Mama Baldé, before Nigeria responded with a 1-0 victory in the return fixture in Bissau three days later.

The most recent meeting also ended in Nigeria’s favour. The Super Eagles defeated Guinea-Bissau 1-0 at the 2023 AFCON finals in Abidjan in January 2024.

Tuesday’s contest therefore brings together two teams that already have three points. A victory would move either side to six points and strengthen its position in the early Group L qualification race. Nigeria will need to combine attacking efficiency with defensive discipline against a Guinea-Bissau side that has already shown it can produce results on the road.
