Guardiola Warns Manchester City to Respect Arsenal Ahead of Premier League Title Clash

Posted : 13 April 2026

Pep Guardiola has urged his players to show full respect to Arsenal ahead of next weekend’s decisive Premier League title showdown, despite Manchester City’s strong recent form narrowing the gap at the top.

Manchester City moved within six points of leaders Arsenal FC after a dominant 3–0 win over Chelsea, with second-half goals sealing an important victory following Arsenal’s surprise defeat to Bournemouth.

The result has intensified the title race, with City also holding a game in hand and set to host Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on April 19 in what could prove a defining moment in the season.

Despite Arsenal’s recent dip in form, Guardiola stressed that they remain one of the strongest teams in Europe and warned against underestimating their quality, consistency, and experience under pressure.

He highlighted Arsenal’s impressive record in recent seasons and insisted that City will need to perform at their absolute best to secure another crucial win in the title race.

Guardiola also called on City supporters to fully back the team from the first whistle while maintaining respect for their opponents, describing Arsenal as an “extraordinary” side capable of competing at the highest level.

The City manager believes his team are peaking at the right time, noting their strong run of form and improved freshness following a less congested schedule in recent weeks.

A major factor in City’s recent surge has been the emergence of Rayan Cherki, who impressed again with key assists in the win over Chelsea and has quickly become a vital creative force in his debut season.

Guardiola praised Cherki’s talent and rapid adaptation to the Premier League, saying the young midfielder has already shown the potential to become an important long-term player for the club.

With the title race finely balanced, Guardiola believes the upcoming clash with Arsenal could be decisive, especially given City’s strong record in the closing stages of recent seasons.
