Pep Guardiola has expressed his desire for Bernardo Silva to remain at Manchester City for the rest of his career, while admitting that the final decision rests entirely with the player.
Silva’s future has become a major talking point as his contract runs down at the end of the season. Reports have linked the Portuguese midfielder with potential moves to FC Barcelona, Juventus, and clubs in Major League Soccer, raising uncertainty over whether he will extend his nine-year stay in Manchester.
Recent comments from City assistant coach Pep Lijnders suggested that Silva could be nearing the end of his time at the club, stating that “every good story comes to an end.” However, Guardiola revealed he has still not received any direct update from the player regarding his future plans.
The City manager joked that he was frustrated not to have been informed, saying he had asked Silva to speak to him first but was still waiting for a response. Despite the uncertainty, Guardiola made clear that no final decision has yet been communicated.
Silva, who joined City from AS Monaco in 2017, has become one of Guardiola’s most trusted players, recently reaching 450 appearances for the club and captaining the side following Kevin De Bruyne’s departure.
Guardiola praised the midfielder’s influence, highlighting his relentless work ethic, competitiveness, and consistency in big matches, even if he does not always attract the same attention as more statistical leaders.
The City boss reiterated his admiration for Silva, saying he would love for him to finish his career at the club. However, he stressed that whatever happens next will ultimately be decided by the player himself.
