Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has stressed that his team must focus on their Premier League clash with West Ham before attempting to overturn a 3-0 Champions League deficit against Real Madrid. City suffered a heavy loss at the Bernabéu in midweek, leaving their hopes of progressing in Europe in jeopardy.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Guardiola emphasized the importance of Saturday’s game against the relegation-threatened Hammers. “Tomorrow night we have a game, an important one for the Premier League position. Then we have the second leg,” he said. “We’re used to these situations. Now it’s West Ham, and after that we will have time to think about Madrid. The Premier League is the most difficult title. We’re still there, knowing that if we drop points it will be over.”
Guardiola acknowledged the challenge posed by West Ham, whose players are fighting to avoid relegation.
City’s upcoming week is packed, with the West Ham match, the Champions League return leg, and the Carabao Cup final all on the horizon. Guardiola defended his decisions following criticism of his team selection against Real Madrid, which saw Federico Valverde score a hat trick
Despite the European setback, Guardiola remains determined to fight on in both competitions, urging his squad to focus on each game as it comes.
