Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is pleased to see Spain midfielder Rodri back in training but remains uncertain about his participation in the upcoming FA Cup final. Guardiola stated that it is still unclear whether Rodri will be ready to feature in the match, noting, "I'm not a doctor." The 28-year-old midfielder, who was previously expected to miss the remainder of the season after suffering a serious knee injury in September, is slowly working his way back to full fitness.
Rodri's injury, which involved rupturing an anterior cruciate ligament during a 2-2 draw with Arsenal, had a significant impact on City’s performance. His absence contributed to the team’s struggle, and they were unable to maintain their dominant form, losing their consecutive run of four Premier League titles.
As a result, Liverpool secured the 2024/25 Premier League title, leaving City to focus on securing a Champions League qualification spot through a top-five league finish.
Guardiola shared his optimism about Rodri’s recovery, stating that the midfielder feels good after each training session. However, the decision to involve him in matches will depend on the physio and doctors’ approval.
Guardiola emphasized the importance of avoiding any setbacks, urging caution as Rodri continues his rehabilitation. While Rodri has been making progress, Guardiola emphasized that the medical team will determine when he is ready to return to competitive action.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Rodri’s fitness, Guardiola remains focused on the upcoming FA Cup final against Crystal Palace on May 17. Although City are performing better, sitting fourth in the league, Guardiola was quick to dismiss suggestions that winning the FA Cup and securing Champions League qualification would mark a successful season. He made it clear that he considers the campaign unsatisfactory, pointing out City’s significant 21-point deficit to Liverpool in the league standings.
