Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola has stressed that “many things can happen” as his team faces a demanding challenge to overturn a 3‑0 first‑leg deficit against Real Madrid in their Champions League last‑16 tie, with the return leg set for Tuesday at the Etihad Stadium.
City suffered a heavy defeat at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium last week, and Guardiola acknowledged that scoring more than three goals against the Spanish giants will be tough.
Still, he maintained confidence in his squad’s belief and resilience, telling reporters that the match is “a football game” and anything is possible if his players focus and give their best.
In preparation for the fixture, Guardiola opted to give his players a rest day on Monday, choosing not to train ahead of the crucial encounter.
The decision reflects an emphasis on recovery after a demanding schedule that included a draw at West Ham United over the weekend, which also impacted City’s Premier League title hopes.
