Golden Eaglets Complete Age Verification Ahead of WAFU B U-17 Championship

Nigeria’s U-17 men’s national team, the Golden Eaglets, have completed the mandatory Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) screening ahead of the 2026 WAFU B U-17 Championship in Burkina Faso.

According to a team official cited by BSN Sports, the age-verification and medical screening process has been completed. The technical crew is now expected to submit a final squad of 26 players for the regional tournament.

The final list is expected to be forwarded next week as preparations continue in Abuja. The Golden Eaglets have been in camp for several weeks while the coaching staff assesses the players and works on the squad ahead of the competition.

Nigeria began preparations with a larger group of players before the technical crew started narrowing the squad. Earlier reports confirmed that dozens of players were invited to camp as coach Eboboritse Uwejamomere and his assistants assessed their fitness, ability and suitability for the U-17 level.

The Golden Eaglets have also played warm-up matches in Abuja as part of their preparations. The team recorded a 4-0 victory over Simonben Academy of Kaduna before drawing 0-0 with Galadima FC in another friendly.

Nigeria will compete in Group B of the WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship alongside Côte d’Ivoire and Niger Republic. Group A contains hosts Burkina Faso, Ghana, Benin Republic and Togo following the regional draw held in Ouagadougou earlier this month.

The tournament is scheduled to take place in Burkina Faso from October 10 to 23, 2026. The competition will also serve as the qualifying tournament for the 2027 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations.

The format places added importance on the group-stage campaign. The top two teams in Group B will advance to the semi-finals, while the two teams that reach the regional final will secure qualification for the continental tournament.

Nigeria will therefore need to negotiate its group successfully before pursuing a place in the final. The Eaglets are continuing their work in Abuja as the coaching staff prepares the final squad for the trip to Burkina Faso.
