Golden Eaglets Begin WAFU B Preparations as Eboboritse Invites 62 Players

Golden Eaglets head coach Uwejamomere Eboboritse has invited 62 players to begin preparations for the 2026 WAFU B U17 Championship, with the squad expected to report to camp in Abuja for screening exercises.

The invited players will undergo a rigorous selection process as the technical crew begins building Nigeria's squad for the regional tournament, which is scheduled to take place in October. Eboboritse will be assisted by Kalli Mohammed Kachalla and Abdullahi Isa throughout the exercise.

The provisional squad consists of five goalkeepers, 18 defenders, 20 midfielders and 19 forwards. Players have been selected from football academies and clubs across the country, reflecting the Nigeria Football Federation's continued search for the country's brightest young talents.

Among the goalkeepers invited are Emmanuel Dada of Beyond Limits FA, Enabodje Jackson Akpobome of Dosu Joseph FA, Mutiu Adenle Adedayo from Seamoriow FA, Usama Salisu of Ranchers Bees FC and Johnny Kelvin from KMK Football Academy.

The defensive unit features players from several prominent academies, including Beyond Limits FA, Rangers International, Supreme Kings FC, Giant Brillars FC and Benin City Sports Academy. The midfield department includes representatives from Sporting Lagos, Beyond Limits FA, Smart City FC, Stormers FC and Mavlon FC.

The attacking options are drawn from clubs and academies such as Sporting Lagos, Kano Pillars FC, Beyond Limits FA, Lobi Stars Feeders, Palmville College Lagos, Ikorodu City FA and Sporting Supreme FC.

The WAFU B U17 Championship serves as the qualifying tournament for the CAF U17 Africa Cup of Nations, making it a crucial competition for the Golden Eaglets. Nigeria must secure qualification for the continental championship before pursuing another appearance at the FIFA U17 World Cup.

The Golden Eaglets remain one of the most successful teams in youth football history, having won the FIFA U17 World Cup a record five times. The new technical crew will be hoping to identify another generation of talented players capable of maintaining Nigeria's proud tradition at youth level.

The screening exercise is expected to reduce the large provisional squad over the coming weeks before the final team is selected for the WAFU B tournament. The competition will bring together the strongest U17 teams from the West African Football Union Zone B, with qualification for the continental finals at stake.

Preparations in Abuja are expected to intensify as the coaching staff evaluates the invited players ahead of the regional championship in October.
