Nottingham Forest head coach Oliver Glasner has demanded sweeping changes at the club following their disappointing 2-0 Premier League defeat to Brentford on Saturday, October 31, 2026. The Austrian warned that Forest could be forced to appoint a sixth manager in just over a year if players fail to embrace his proposed changes.
Forest suffered another setback at the Gtech Community Stadium, with an unfortunate Nikola Milenkovic own goal and a late strike from Igor Thiago handing Brentford all three points. The defeat left Forest second from bottom in the Premier League table, increasing pressure on Glasner to reverse their poor start to the campaign.
Speaking after the match, Glasner admitted that his team's performances and results were unacceptable. He also acknowledged that he had made too many compromises since taking charge and insisted that a different approach was now necessary.
"If you lose four of the last five games, it's not good enough. And that's why for me, it's now time that we change things, that I change things, and that's what I will do," Glasner said.
The former Crystal Palace manager also questioned whether some players were fully committed to the club's direction. He warned that those unwilling to follow his plans could leave Forest searching for another head coach.
"If the players buy in, I think we can have a turnaround. And if not, the sixth manager will come in," he added.
Glasner further insisted that he was not concerned about losing his position, stressing that the club's problems required a complete rebuilding process.
"Nobody needs to have pity with Oliver Glasner. If I want, I could start in two weeks somewhere else. I won't do it. But the players, the staff, they remain in the same situation," he said.
He also described the situation at Forest as similar to the difficulties experienced during the previous season. The Austrian maintained that changes must happen throughout the club, from the bottom to the top, without further compromises.
Forest's attacking struggles have been particularly concerning. They have scored just six goals in nine Premier League matches, making them the lowest-scoring team in the competition. They have also failed to score in five of those fixtures.
Against Brentford, Forest created opportunities but struggled with their finishing. James McAtee missed a promising first-half chance, while substitute Ryan Yates headed over from close range after the interval.
Brentford took the lead in the 30th minute when Dango Ouattara's delivery resulted in Milenkovic turning the ball into his own net. Igor Thiago then secured the victory in the 76th minute with a finish following a pass from substitute Jaidon Anthony.
The result ended Brentford's four-match winless run and lifted Keith Andrews' side to sixth place in the standings.
Andrews described the victory as his team's best performance of the season, praising their intelligence, discipline and leadership against a difficult opponent.
For Forest, the defeat extends their difficult run to four losses in five league matches. Glasner now faces the challenge of restoring confidence, improving their attacking output and ensuring his players commit to his proposed changes before their relegation battle becomes more difficult.
