Ghanaian Referee Julian Nunoo Appointed for Flying Eagles' Semi-final

The WAFU Zone B organising committee has appointed Ghanaian referee Julian Nunoo to take charge of Wednesday's semi-final between Nigeria's Flying Eagles and tournament hosts Ivory Coast.

Nunoo will serve as the centre referee for the highly anticipated encounter, while fellow Ghanaian official Theophilus Akugre has been named Assistant Referee 2 for the match at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium.

The appointment places two experienced Ghanaian officials in charge of one of the biggest fixtures of the tournament as both teams battle for a place in the WAFU B U-20 Championship final.

Ivory Coast reached the semi-finals after finishing top of Group A, taking advantage of home support to progress through the group stage. The hosts have impressed with their attacking football and will be aiming to continue their unbeaten run.

Nigeria booked their place in the last four after progressing from Group B. The Flying Eagles began their campaign with a dramatic victory over Ghana before securing qualification for the knockout stage.

Head coach Abdu Maikaba has already challenged his players to improve defensively after conceding four goals during the group phase. The Nigerian coach believes better concentration at the back will be crucial against a strong Ivorian side.

The semi-final is expected to be one of the most competitive matches of the championship, with both nations seeking victory to move within one game of lifting the regional title.

For the Ghana Football Association, the appointments of Nunoo and Akugre represent another milestone for the country's match officials. Their selection highlights the confidence the Confederation of African Football and WAFU continue to place in Ghanaian referees for important regional fixtures.

Nigeria and Ivory Coast have developed a competitive rivalry at youth level over the years, and another closely contested encounter is anticipated as both teams chase a place in the championship final.

The winner of Wednesday's clash will advance to the WAFU B U-20 Championship final, while the losing side will compete in the third-place playoff.
