Getafe president Angel Torres has confirmed that the club is fully prepared to sell Nigerian midfielder Christantus Uche. The Spanish executive stated that an impressive offer during the summer transfer window will trigger a permanent transfer. This development follows a challenging loan spell for the Super Eagles player in the English Premier League with Crystal Palace.
The versatile midfielder originally moved to England last summer on a temporary deal. That agreement contained a specific financial clause that would have triggered a permanent transfer fee. However; Uche failed to hit the performance targets required to make the switch to Selhurst Park permanent. The player only featured as a substitute in fourteen league games under manager Oliver Glasner.
His current temporary contract in London concludes on June 30. Getafe head coach Jose Bordalas is reportedly keen to reintegrate the player back into his squad for the upcoming La Liga campaign. Uche remains a highly trusted asset for the manager; especially as the club prepares to lose key midfielders Mauro Arambarri and Luis Milla this summer.
Despite the coaching staff wanting to retain his services; the club hierarchy remains open to a sale. Getafe operates under strict financial constraints and regularly uses player trading to balance their books. Torres acknowledged that the player does not mind returning to Spain; but a lucrative bid will change the situation. The Nigerian is currently valued at twelve million euros on the market.
This valuation marks an incredible financial rise for the young midfielder. Getafe signed the player from third tier side AD Ceuta for just five hundred thousand euros two years ago. Several clubs are now monitoring his availability as the window opens. English Premier League side Everton and Spanish rivals Real Betis are both strongly credited with an interest in securing his services.
Neither club has made a formal or credible opening bid for the player yet. Real Betis are reportedly considering a package worth fifteen million euros to tempt the Madrid outskirts club. Getafe will carefully review any formal bids that match their expectations before making a final decision. The upcoming transfer window is expected to be long and intense for the player.
