Gian Piero Gasperini’s position at Roma is already coming under scrutiny as internal tensions with Claudio Ranieri overshadow preparations for a crucial Serie A fixture against Atalanta. The match could prove vital in Roma’s push to secure a Champions League spot.

Gasperini joined Roma last summer after a highly successful spell at Atalanta, taking over with the backing of Ranieri, who currently serves as an advisor to the club’s ownership. However, what began as a supportive relationship has deteriorated into a public disagreement.

The Roma coach has recently voiced frustration over the club’s transfer strategy, implying he did not have full involvement in certain signings. Ranieri has firmly rejected those claims, insisting that every recruitment decision was made with Gasperini’s approval since his arrival.

The dispute has become increasingly public, drawing criticism from Roma legend Francesco Totti, who urged both figures to show more respect toward supporters and resolve their differences. Italian media now suggest that either Gasperini or Ranieri could leave the club at the end of the season.

On the pitch, Roma’s situation remains fragile. The club sits sixth in Serie A, three points behind Juventus in fourth place, and has lost three of its last five league matches. Their struggles against direct rivals for Champions League qualification have further complicated their hopes of returning to Europe’s top competition for the first time in seven years.

Meanwhile, Atalanta remain within striking distance of the top four, trailing Juventus by six points. Elsewhere in Serie A, Inter Milan continue to close in on the title, boosted by strong performances from Denzel Dumfries, who has returned to top form after injury and remains a key figure in their title push.
