Gambia Face Dressing Room Setback Ahead of Ghana AFCON 2027 Clash

The Gambia national team reportedly encountered a dressing room issue upon arriving at the Accra Sports Stadium for their official training session ahead of Tuesday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ghana.

Reports from the Gambian camp stated that no dressing room was immediately made available to the visiting team when they arrived at the stadium. The players reportedly had to change into their training kits on the pitch before beginning their session.

The circumstances surrounding the reported situation have not been fully explained. The incident came shortly before The Gambia’s crucial Group C meeting with the Black Stars in Accra.

The Gambia entered the second round of qualifying on three points after defeating Somalia 2-1 in their opening fixture. Ebrima Colley gave the Scorpions an early lead from the penalty spot before Somalia equalised, while substitute Muhammed Badamosi restored Gambia’s advantage.

Ghana, meanwhile, are looking to recover from a difficult start to their qualifying campaign. The Black Stars suffered a 2-0 defeat away to Côte d’Ivoire in their opening Group C fixture in Bouaké.

The Gambia’s preparations have also been affected by a limited period to work with the squad. Assistant coach Abdou Jammeh said the team had little time to prepare for the important away fixture after their opening victory.

The match carries significant importance for both sides. The Gambia currently have three points, while Ghana are yet to register a point after the first round of fixtures.

CAF’s schedule lists the Group C encounter for 4:00 p.m. GMT on Tuesday, September 29, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Ghana Football Association also confirmed that both teams held their official training sessions at the venue on Monday. The Gambia’s session was scheduled for 4:00 p.m., following their pre-match press conference.

The reported dressing room setback adds an unusual element to the build-up, but The Gambia will now turn their attention to the pitch as they seek to maintain their winning start. Ghana, meanwhile, need a positive result at home to revive their position in Group C.
