Galatasaray Weigh Captaincy Switch as Victor Osimhen Continues Impressive Run

Turkish giants Galatasaray are reportedly preparing a massive leadership change that could see Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen become the new club captain. The Istanbul heavyweights want to hand the armband to the Nigerian international ahead of next season. This decision depends on whether the club retains current skipper and Argentine forward Mauro Icardi.

According to prominent Turkish football pundit Ali Naci Küçük, the management is eager to elevate Osimhen to the permanent leadership role. Icardi has faced growing criticism from journalists and fans alike over his off-pitch commitment and recent poor reactions to being substituted. These internal friction points have forced coach Okan Buruk and the board to explore other captaincy options.

Osimhen has enjoyed a breathtaking spell with the Lions since making his initial move to Turkey. The 27-year-old goal machine has fully established himself as the most influential figure inside the squad. He played a monumental role in guiding the club to a record-extending 26th Turkish Süper Lig championship, finishing three points ahead of bitter city rivals Fenerbahçe.

He also excelled in Europe by contributing seven goals in the UEFA Champions League before a round-of-16 exit against Liverpool. His continuous world-class displays have heavily endeared him to both the technical crew and the passionate Istanbul supporters.

Following their historic league triumph, Osimhen joined his teammates on an official courtesy visit to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the presidential office. The Nigerian superstar dressed in a sharp suit and personally thanked the head of state for the grand reception. This high-profile event further cements his growing legendary status as the undisputed face of the Turkish champions.
