Galatasaray Captain Abdulkerim Bardakci Praises Victor Osimhen for Defensive Work Rate

Galatasaray captain Abdulkerim Bardakci has highly praised his teammate Victor Osimhen for his incredible defensive contributions. The newly crowned Turkish Super Lig champions entered the final stretch of the 2025/2026 season with the best defensive record in the division. The yellow-red camp conceded just 29 goals throughout the domestic run, showcasing remarkable stability at the back.

Osimhen had an exceptional campaign, racking up 22 goals and eight assists across all competitions. However, his contributions stretched far beyond his standard attacking output. The Nigerian striker earned immense praise for his tireless work rate, high pressing, and readiness to tracking back to aid the midfield.

Bardakci noted that Galatasaray's defensive security truly begins with their attacking line. He stressed that Osimhen commands this role perfectly, serving as the first line of defense.

Yunus Akgun and Gabriel Sara consistently join the forward in executing high-intensity pressing traps. This coordinated front-line pressure severely disrupts opposition passing lanes. Bardakci admitted that the ball rarely reaches the center-backs because of Osimhen's relentless harassment of opposing defenders.

Statistical data from the 2025/2026 campaign backs up the veteran defender's high praise. Osimhen averaged 0.3 interceptions, 0.8 clearances, and 0.6 tackles per league match. Furthermore, he recovered two balls per game and won possession in the attacking third once per fixture.

The disciplined collective defensive structure helped Galatasaray claim their 26th Super Lig title. This achievement marks a historic fourth consecutive domestic league trophy for the Turkish giants. Their incredible defensive record proved foundational to maintaining regional dominance over rivals Goztepe and Fenerbahce.
