Fulham Raise Bid for Chibuike Nwaiwu as Trabzonspor Hold Firm

Posted : 30 June 2026

Fulham have stepped up their pursuit of Nigerian defender Chibuike Nwaiwu after submitting an improved transfer offer to Turkish club Trabzonspor. The Premier League side are eager to strengthen their defence ahead of the new season, but negotiations remain difficult as the Turkish club continue to demand a significantly higher fee.

Reports from Turkey indicate that Fulham's initial proposal was rejected, prompting the London club to return with a better offer believed to be worth around €20 million. However, Trabzonspor are standing firm and are reportedly unwilling to consider a sale unless they receive between €30 million and €35 million, with some reports placing their valuation even higher.

Nwaiwu has enjoyed a remarkable rise since joining Trabzonspor from Austrian club Wolfsberger AC during the January transfer window. The 22-year-old quickly established himself as a regular in central defence and became one of the team's standout performers. His commanding displays, aerial strength and ability to contribute goals have attracted interest from several clubs across Europe.

Fulham view the Super Eagles defender as one of their priority targets this summer. The club are expected to continue talks with Trabzonspor in the hope of reaching an agreement, especially as they look to reinforce their backline before the Premier League campaign begins. West Ham United have also been linked with the Nigerian international, while clubs from Germany and France are monitoring his situation.

Despite the growing transfer speculation, Nwaiwu recently insisted that he remains committed to Trabzonspor. The defender stated that he is under contract with the Turkish club and intends to continue his journey there unless both clubs agree on a transfer. His comments have strengthened Trabzonspor's negotiating position as they remain under no pressure to sell.

With the gap between Fulham's latest bid and Trabzonspor's asking price still considerable, discussions are expected to continue over the coming weeks. Whether Fulham decide to improve their offer again could determine if one of Nigeria's fastest-rising defenders secures a move to the Premier League before the transfer window closes.
